Loom Review 2023: Top Features, Pricing, Alternatives, Pros & Cons

Visual communication is the most effective way for businesses to communicate. This allows you to express yourself better or convey your message. With Loom, it’s so simple.

Loom is an async video communication platform designed for the workplace.

Built for simplicity and speed, this platform allows users to record, share, and interact with video messages quickly.

The features in Loom include fast recording, screen sharing, link sharing, video editing, emoji reactions, access controls, and advanced reporting.

In this Loom review, we’ll examine all these key features, pros and cons, pricing, and how we can use it to our advantage.

What is Loom

A new way to bring your work to life and communicate with colleagues and customers, Loom combines the expressiveness of video with the convenience of messaging.

Despite its straightforward interface, it offers the option to record your voice, your face, or both, which is a welcome feature.

Not only that, but Loom offers a range of other impressive features, including video stitching, emoji reactions, advanced reporting, and access control.

That’s why more than 14 million people across 200,000 companies use Loom’s async video technology to communicate faster.

Whether it’s HubSpot, Atlassian, or Netflix, Loom wants to be the screen recording and collaboration tool of choice for small businesses and large corporations alike.

Loom Review: Key Features

1. Simple User Interface

Loom has an intuitive user interface. Even a novice can easily understand things and use them effectively.

A navigation bar can be found on the left-hand side of the homepage. Team members, libraries, notifications, history, and a few settings are located here.

The library stores recorded videos, screenshots, and accomplishments.

You will find some filters here so you can easily find videos. You can see any comments you get on your videos in the notifications section as well.

2. Fast and Easy Video Recording

Simply click on the Loom extension, and Loom is ready to record your video.

Loom has many features. It offers three options for recording: camera only, the screen only, and both camera and screen simultaneously.

Besides displaying the full desktop, it also displays the current tab. You can also record tab audio.

I like the “creating a recording canvas” feature. It gives you the freedom to customize the background and text layout as per your requirement. Pre-installed templates make it easy to communicate effectively.

3. Video Editing

Loom allows you to not only record videos but also edit them effectively.

It contains many useful tools such as reviewing the transcript, video preferences, trimming, adding clips, and changing thumbnails. These tools make a video more engaging.

Below the video, you can leave a comment.

4. Video Stitching

Once you have recorded the Loom, all you have to do is click on the “Add clips” button, which appears in the editing window.

Using that button, you can insert another video in the middle, at the beginning, or at the end of an existing video.

5. Video Sharing

By default, every video you create is shared with the entire world.

You can share the link with anyone and trust they will be able to view it in their browser. You can turn off the public sharing feature for individual videos if you’d like to change this default behavior.

Viewers of your video can speed up playback, leave comments, react with emojis, and see a transcript automatically generated.

The Share button in the interface allows users to share videos on social networks and embed them on their websites.

Loom links are automatically converted into videos when the Chrome extension is installed on websites like Gmail, Google Docs, JIRA, and GitLab.

6. Compatibility

You don’t want to worry about whether your browser will support the Loom or not.

Loom Chrome extension is compatible with almost all browsers, mainly with Google Chrome, Mircosoft Edge, Opera, and Brave.

Loom also comes with a mobile app and desktop app.

Looms is offering a starter plan that is absolutely free. It allows you to create 50 creator lite accounts.

Loom Business Plan:

With the Business plan, you can mix Creator accounts with Creator Lite accounts so that you can introduce more of your team to Loom for free.

You can add an unlimited number of paid creators and 50 creator lite customers with a Business Plan. Note that only starter plan benefits will be available to creator lite customers.

It also allows unlimited video uploads without any length restrictions.

Along with the starter plan features, you can also get exclusive features such as custom branding, engagement insights, embeddable links, password-protected videos, and video uploading.

It costs $10 per month, but you can get a discount by subscribing annually.

If you opt for an annual subscription, it will cost you $8/month.

All the benefits of the starter and business plans are included in this plan.

It allows you to add unlimited members and send unlimited videos of unlimited length.

Loom Review: FAQs

1. When my team or I reach our 25 video limit on the Starter plan, what happens?

Per member, the starter plan limits videos to 25. You will have to delete videos or upgrade to the Business plan if you wish to record more than 25 videos.

2. How do I share my video?

It’s the same as sharing a link to a news article or a YouTube video. Copy the link anywhere, and anyone can click on it to watch.

3. If members leave my Workspace, do I get a refund?

In the case of deactivated Workspace members (Creators), Loom will apply a pro-rated credit to your account. The credit will be applied to future Workspace charges.

4. Is Loom compatible with Firefox, Safari, etc.?

Currently, the Loom extension is compatible with the following browsers:
Google Chrome
Mircosoft Edge
Opera
Brave
It is still possible to record on other browsers, such as Safari, but you will have to run your recording from a browser that supports the Looms Chrome extension. With the Loom desktop application, you can record across any browser or application with ease and with the camera bubble visible.

5. Does Loom have a mobile app?

Yes, Loom is available on both iOS and Android. Download Loom for iOS from the App Store and for Android from the Google Play store.

Loom Review: Alternatives

1. Vidyard

Loom faces tough competition from Vidyard when it comes to video recording.

There are several features included, including video marketing features, video security features, video analytics features, and video hosting management and storage features.

It integrates with Salesforce, Marketo, and Hubspot.

When compared to Loom, Vidyard is slightly more expensive. Paid plans start at $15 per month. But the feature range is worth the money.

2. Camtasia

Camtasia is a screen recording and video production solution that can make, edit, and share videos.

A built-in library of music and sound effects is available for adding to videos, and audio clips can be uploaded for use.

Camtasia’s editing tools allow users to add video transitions, animations, and quizzes before publishing screen recordings.

You can upload videos directly to YouTube, Vimeo, Screencast, or any other online video-sharing program.

The license is valid for two devices and includes a one-time fee.

3. Cloudapp

CloudApp is a video and image-sharing platform that enables companies to create custom, shareable media assets that can enhance their sales, marketing, and communication capabilities.

A number of features are available in the software, from screen recording and webcam recording to screen captures and annotations.

All assets you create can be shared with others through a custom-generated link, and you can set permissions so that only specific people can access your files.

The paid plan starts at $8/mo and allows 3 users at a minimum.

Loom Review: Summary
